Christmas Decorations Can Be Environmentally Friendly

By James Thompson

The holidays are almost here so it's time to put out the Christmas decorations and put the house in a festive mood. There are many different Christmas light options you can choose from. Your holiday decorations can be green and energy efficient. Here are a few ways you can decorate your home and still be green.

Use natural Christmas decorations: Green decorations are environmentally friendly, will not end up in a dump and add an unexpected touch to any house's decor. They're lots of holiday decorations that don't use electricity at all. You can make your home festive with fresh evergreen boughs and other winter plants like holly bushes and mistletoe.

Use light-emitting-diode Christmas lights: Some hardware stores are trying out Christmas light trade-in rebates to help encourage people to switch to LED Christmas lights. LED (light-emitting-diode) Christmas decorations cost a little more new but they offer large energy savings over incandescent light bulbs. You can save up to 60% on your energy costs for Christmas lights if you switch to LED decorations. But be aware, LED Christmas lights aren't always a good deal.

Reuse lights you already own: One of the best ways to save money is to go shopping in your own basement! By reusing Christmas lights from one year to the next you are keeping lots of plastic out of your local dump and being smart about using resources. Try to skip purchasing all new Christmas decorations each year.

With a little thought you can decorate for the holidays and still be green. As long as your holiday decorations are in adequate condition it should be safe to reuse them again and again. Remember that your actions now can be a perfect gift for tomorrow's children. Many of these green decorating ideas will put more money in your wallet that you can spend on holiday gifts! - 29958
