Finding The Right Vacuum Cleaner For Your House

By Victor Cleary

When it comes to home appliances, the vacuum cleaner happens to be one of the most important you can buy. It is responsible for removing dust and dirt from your home and keeping it healthier for your family members. Today there are many models to choose from, coming from a variety of popular brands. You will need to do some research and comparisons to make sure you find the best one. Fortunately the internet makes it easy to read consumer reviews and visit manufacturer's websites to look over all the features.

When it comes to researching vacuum cleaners you will notice that there are two basic types to choose from. A canister vacuum is much more maneuverable than an upright and has the tools to clean a variety of floor types. If your home features some hardwoods, tile, or linoleum in addition to carpets then you might want to look at the many canisters available today. On the other hand, if you have mostly carpets that are thicker you might need the suction power of a modern upright. By thinking about how you will be using it on a regular basis you can quickly make the decision between these two popular styles of cleaners.

Bagged or bagless is another thing you will have to decide. A bagged vacuum cleaner will use its' bag as a filter to completely trap any dirt that gets sucked up into the machine. If the bag seals tightly against the vacuum there will be almost no chance for dust to escape. You will, however, have to buy replacement bags on a regular basis but you will be rewarded with a clean home each time you use it.

Bagless vacuum cleaners do not use bags to trap the dirt but instead use a canister that you can easily empty. The combination of this canister and other filters will remove the vast majority of dust from the air before it travels back out into your home. The advantage to them is you don't have to use replacement bags and can simply empty the canister into your garbage as needed. The downside is they don't tend to be as airtight as a bagged model. This can vary based on the quality of the vacuum though.

One feature that is very important on any new vacuum is a HEPA filter. These specialty filters can capture as much as 99% of those nasty allergens like dust mites and mold spores before they can make their way back into your home. If you are an allergy sufferer or someone who has asthma then you will appreciate what this type of filtration system can do for you.

Your budget is another consideration as the price range of today's vacuums can vary greatly. While a lower priced cleaner might suffice for your home you will notice that they do not have the bells and whistles of the higher priced ones. Another consideration is the amount of use you will put on it. If you plan on using it often then you should spend the extra money on a brand that has a track record of long lasting vacuum cleaners.

For your research a great place to start is by reading some reviews on the internet. By hearing from those who have used a particular vacuum you can really learn a lot. Sure it is nice to get the specifications from the manufacturer, you really don't know how the cleaner will work in the real world. You can also check with some family members and friends to see which one they use and if they recommend it.

Should you decide to buy a new vacuum cleaner you will also need to maintain it as recommended on the owner's manual. Pay attention to wear on the belt and keep the filters clean. This will keep the machine operating at maximum capacity and will ultimately help it remove dirt more effectively. - 29958
