Curtains For Privacy

By Sarah K Howarth

Privacy remains the utmost reason for people to put curtains in their homes, as they really help in blocking the outside world in to viewing the private settings. Although it can also bring in more warmth and beautify a room, people put curtains to avoid having strangers peep in to their personal area. At some places, curtains are also used to make two rooms out of one, by putting up a curtain in between. Let us see the different purposes of curtains in context to privacy.

Curtains For Windows

It is a fact that windows look incomplete without adorning a curtain over it; not just outside windows but also the inside windows. People, outside the house, can look in through the windows, if they are not covered by curtains. Nobody wants the outside world to peep in to their private settings and see which condition they are in. Most of the time people do not even wear full clothes at home and would be very uncomfortable if some stranger sees them in that condition. Hence, people should make it a point not to leave their external windows uncovered, and they can always remove them or open them when they want to.

In the guest room, you can use curtains made of lighter fabric. They will not block the view but will give a blurred vision to the onlookers outside. A combination of lighter curtains along with darker ones can be used in guest rooms. You can remove the darker ones during the day while keeping the lighter ones still draped over the windows.

Privacy For Shower

For people who have only one bathroom in the house, a shower curtain proves to be quite helpful. The bathroom can be used by two people at a time; one using the shower and other for toilet purpose. This usually happens when there is a long line of people waiting to use the toilet; it guaranties privacy for both people.

Privacy For bedroom

A bedroom might be at any side of the house, but it requires a curtain for its window. All couples need their privacy in the bedroom; hence, it should be adorned with material which helps in controlling the voice in the room, and also ensures total privacy. Some people have the traditional four post bed, which is usually covered by curtains in all the four sides. Not only does it creates seclusion but also looks very nice.

Backyard Privacy

These days many people are adding curtains and stands in their backyard to avoid having strangers peep in to their backyard. Usually, the neighbours are quite curious, and look in to the backyard of others while people are trying to enjoy a nice barbecue with family and friends. It becomes quite a nuisance; curtains can block out their view. Usually large curtains are used for this purpose and are positioned at dedicated locations, mostly the favourite spots of the house. - 29958
